Buried in the facts, find the story that’s human and relatable

Hi, I’m Stacey Solie.

I help professionals share their experience through written storytelling.

Everyone is an expert at something, and I love helping people contribute their insight by capturing what they know in print.

I’m a generalist - I have helped scientists, climate policy wonks, wealth advisors, musicians, novelists, artists and memoirists figure out what they’re trying to say and get it down on the page, or refine and clarify what they’ve already written.

The Process

You share your draft and ideas with me. We talk on the phone or video conference (and — if appropriate — I do the same with your clients or stakeholders), and collaborate on new drafts until we’ve crafted a compelling piece of writing that does what you want it to do (e.g. educate, persuade, entertain).

Put your stories to work by getting them out of your head and down on paper.

  • You have something you need to put into words, but you haven’t done it yet.

  • You have a draft or a source document that needs to be reworked. Maybe it lacks organization or flow, or it only captures part of what you're trying to convey.

  • An existing narrative needs to be countered, and you need ammunition, in the form of compelling examples to make your case. I help identify narrative-shifting stories and talking points to support your goals.

My Work

My work spans a wide range of genres: academic science writing, journalism, personal narrative, policy, marketing and explanatory white papers, and includes editing others' work, ghostwriting and my own original writing.

About Me

Before owning my own business I spearheaded the birth of science communications at The Nature Conservancy and led science-writing workshops and classes. I worked as a journalist for several years (sometimes still do), with work published in the New York Times, the Daily Beast and other national and local outlets; did comms work at Stanford University, and landed a screenwriting gig at HBO.

In my formative years, I exited a highly controlling white-dominated patriarchal religion, which sharpened my critical thinking towards authority and propaganda; gave me compassion for religious zeal; and made me into a self-help junkie in a life-long effort to counteract all that conditioning.

During the pandemic I moved to the Mojave desert and started playing drums. Holding down the beat in a couple of bands and other local creative community endeavors have been a balm I've been searching for all along.
